RALF BRÖG
XF PART 4: JB (CANONIC)
11 DECEMBER 2014 — 30 JANUARY 2015
20 SOUTH STREET, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
For Drop City’s premiere exhibition, Ralf Brög presents the latest form of xf, emphasising his concern with the role conceptual art plays within the wider breadth of his practice, spanning painting, sculpture, architecture, design, distribution, and the publishing of SITEmagazine.
The Xpanded Format (xf) series is a new body of work that relates to Brög’s ongoing experimentation towards:
sculpture as distribution as sculpture
distribution as sculpture as distribution
sculpture as magazine as sculpture
magazine as sculpture as magazine
sculpture as exhibition as sculpture
exhibition as sculpture as exhibition
The xf series, launched in 2012, has developed from Brög’s interests in crossmedia strategies and the potential of delivery within his practice. It aims to add to the above outlined thematic field from a different set of parameters.
Since 1998 SITE has taken the form of a published magazine, live event, exhibition and commercial gallery. Founded by Ralf Brög, Sven Lütgen and Petra Rinck, SITE is inherently an artist led project that encompasses artists' practises and aspects of presentation, distribution and publication.
SITE is an experimental crossmedia platform concerned with producing, exhibiting and distributing art and art related material. It is an ideal conceptual arena for art; it is idealistic, romantic, utopian, concrete and real at once. It includes potentially any topic, style or strategy as long as the overall manoeuvre relates to critical art discourse in particular. SITE is an artist enterprise, which pushes self-organisation, cooperation and individual interference.
Born in Stuttgart in 1967, Brög has been a key presence in Düsseldorf’s art scene. Negotiating experimental innovative formats to exhibit and distribute art, he works across mediums and formats contemporaneously as artist and as publisher.
Recent exhibitions include Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf; Pori Art Museum, Pori, Finland; Petra Rinck Galerie, Düsseldorf; Quadriennale Düsseldorf; Kunst Allianz, Berlin; LWV, Münster; Das Seewerk, Moers
